Left purposely unfinished to finish portrait biro acrylic paint markers original drawing by Chris Shopland on 10.5 x 14.8 cm paper

I’ve always loved the moment when a painting is only half rendered—the contrast between the unfinished and the refined has its own kind of beauty. It can be tough to resist the urge to keep working, but with this piece I wanted to leave it as it is. While it doesn’t have the hyper-realistic effect of some unfinished works of other artists, I think the balance between the raw and the detailed still speaks for itself. I may take it further into a full painting one day, but for now I hope you can enjoy the dialogue between the unfinished and the more resolved areas, just as I do.
