Believing in her power collage, acrylic and ink original painting by Chris Shopland on 20 x 25xm canvas
Believing in ourselves takes time. As we move into new decades of life, we often become less concerned with what others think and more comfortable embracing who we truly are.
This highly experimental piece combines my usual paint and ink with new collage elements , created through playful studio-floor experimentation. Some elements are tried and tested; others are explorations of something raw, real and still unfolding.
I wanted to explore empowerment and our relationship with the human body, so often used to sell, shame or impose expectations. Yet increasingly, people are reclaiming the freedom to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Highly textured, playful and unapologetic, this artwork celebrates self-acceptance, individuality and the joy of experimenting without needing to have all the answers.
